LeTourneau University is hosting its second annual Spring Scholarship competition Saturday, March 2, that has attracted more than 60 high school seniors from all over the country competing for $250,000 in scholarships.

“This is our second year to host this event, which we initiated last year due to our desire to offer every interested student the opportunity to compete for scholarship dollars,” said LETU Provost Philip A. Coyle. “A couple of students here this weekend qualified for our full-tuition Heritage Competition in February, but are attending this weekend due to scheduling conflicts.”

Students will meet with deans and faculty, participate in interviews and take campus tours. The group includes 26 for the School of Engineering, 20 for the School of Arts and sciences, 12 for the School of Education, 1 for the School of Aeronautical Science. The others are undecided majors. The average SAT for these is 1180 and we have several interested in participating in co-curricular activities.

“Some of our campus leaders and top students in co-curricular engagement came from our spring scholarship day last year,” said Steve Condon, LETU vice president for Enrollment Services. “Our deans quickly identified outstanding school leaders from this pool of excellent students last year and awarded scholarships and recruited them. These spring scholars have proven to be stellar campus leaders in every way.”

Condon hopes to offer more scholarships after this weekend, since he says deposits are up for incoming students interested in attending LETU in the fall.

“Frankly, we’ll need to host another couple of opportunities just like this due to the demand for our high quality, high touch brand of Christian experience in learning,” he said. “We are finding a terrific fit between these families and our university, and since our outcomes clearly illustrate how successful our graduates are, we are enjoying this wonderful increase in student interest.”

LeTourneau University is an interdenominational Christ-centered university located in Longview, Texas, with undergraduate and graduate programs online and at education centers around the state. Academic majors include aviation, business, communication, computer science, criminal justice, education, engineering, health care administration, health science-nursing, human services, kinesiology, the liberal arts, the sciences and psychology.

Claiming every workplace in every nation as its mission field, LeTourneau University graduates are professionals of ingenuity and Christ-like character who see life’s work as a holy calling with eternal impact.
