This August, enjoy Stanley Kubrick films at the City of Tyler’s Liberty Hall.

Stanley Kubrick was an American film director, screenwriter, producer, cinematographer and editor.

He is regarded as one of the greatest filmmakers of all time. His films, typically adaptations of novels or short stories, are noted for their "dazzling" and unique cinematography, attention to details to achieve realism and an inspired use of music scores. Kubrick's films cover a variety of genres, including war, crime, romance, black comedy, horror, epics and science fiction.

While some of Kubrick's films were controversial and received mixed reviews, most of his films were nominated for Oscars or Golden Globes and were later acclaimed as being masterpieces.

Liberty will show:

  • “Paths of Glory” (Aug. 1)
  • “Spartacus” (Aug. 8)
  • “Dr. Strangelove" or "How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb” (Aug. 15)
  • “A Clockwork Orange” (Aug. 22)
  • “Full Metal Jacket” (Aug. 29)

All films will be shown at 7:00 p.m.

Kubrick’s films are often violent and are not for children.

Liberty Hall will feature the Jimmy Stewart classic, “Harvey” (1950) for the whole family on Aug. 3 at 3:00 p.m. The classic stage hit gets the Hollywood treatment in the story of Elwood P. Dowd, who makes friends with a spirit taking the form of a 6-foot tall rabbit named Harvey. Only Elwood can see Harvey and occasionally a few privileged others. After Elwood’s sister tries to commit him to a mental institution, a comedy of errors ensues. Elwood and Harvey become the catalysts for a family mending its wounds and for romance blossoming in unexpected places.

Doors open an hour before the movies. Tickets are available online or at the door for $5. Go to for more information. Be sure to “Like” us on Facebook for daily updates.
