Lightning to blame for exploding tanks in Liberty City

Monday, April 4, 2011 - 5:13pm

A smoldering pile of twisted metal is all that's left after 3 salt water oil storage tanks exploded Monday morning in Liberty City.

Eyewitnesses at Sabine Disposal Services say one tank was struck by lighting this morning, which spread to the other 2 tanks next to it.

On the other side of the tanks, there were 10 other tanks in 2 rows -- fire crews said they were fortunately able to keep the flames off of those.

A firefighter on scene said it only took around 20 minutes to put out the fire once they started using foam.

Crews say no one was injured in the blast.
