Liquor sales in Rusk

The city of Rusk said yes to liquor sales last May, and now one store is gearing up for its first big weekend.
One of the arguments made for alcohol sales here is tax revenue.
If the experience of Fat Dog’s liquor is anything to go by, that’s going to be the argument here, too.
Business there is good…and getting much better.
Rusk is a city of 5500 in Cherokee County that is probably best known, for better or worse, as the home of the state psychiatric hospital.
For awhile now, you could buy beer and wine here in rusk, and then in may, the voters here decided to go for the whole enchilada, and voted to allow the sale of liquor.
Samantha McCullough is the new manager of the Fat Dogs Liquor store in Rusk.
Well, it is a liquor store now.
She says they are gearing up for the first weekend of liquor sales since the vote on the law.
And she says, there business is booming. And the customers say, it’s about time.
Presuming the petitions make it through the vetting process, Tyler will be looking at the same decision in November.
