TYLER, TX (KETK) — A Tyler family, the Milams, are spreading awareness about mobile disabilities on behalf of their seven-year-old daughter, Megan.
Megan was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsey when she was only one. Even though she can understand everything going on around her she has little control over her body's movements.
A motorized wheelchair gives here full mobility around school but since the family has no way to bring it home, that's the only place she has it.
That's why the family is letting everyone know about mobilityawarenessmonth.com's Local Heroes Contest.
It's a nationwide competition in which spreading the word about mobile disabilities is key. The prize? A wheelchair accessible van.
This would give Megan the freedom she needs to not only go where she wants at school, but also at home.
The Milams have been working nonstop to win this contest and would like everyone to vote for Megan.
"We want to represent East Texas and this contest in the best way possible so that people can see how supportive this community is. That's what the Local Hero contest is about." said Amy Milam, Megan's mom.
