On August 23, 2012 at 9:20 p.m., officers observed a red Chevrolet truck leaving a motel located in the 1500 Block of East Marshall Avenue.

Officers stopped the vehicle and the driver was identified as 38 year-old Stephen Cannada of Longview. Cannada had two small children with him in the vehicle, and one was holding an open can of beer.

Officers searched Cannada’s vehicle and located suspected crack cocaine under the seat of the truck.

Officers determined that Cannada had left the two small children in the vehicle while he went into an undisclosed room at the motel and purchased crack cocaine.

Cannada was arrested and charged with two counts of Abandon/Endangering a Child, and one count of Possession of a Controlled Substance (penalty Group 1 less than 1 gram). He was transported to the Gregg County Jail without incident. The children were released to a family member.
