Local Sept. 11 remembrances low key, but still heartfelt
Across East Texas, most people paused briefly Wednesday to remember an event many swore never to forget.
On the 12th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks in New York, Pennsylvania and Washington D.C., most observances in the area were low-key, perhaps a sign that the passage of time has helped assuage the memory.
But there were those who took the extra time to remember — illustrated by a solitary walk by a young National Guardsmen, a balloon release by retirees, a fire academy graduation dedicated to those who fell, and church memorial services.
