TYLER - The storms that pushed through East Texas overnight Wednesday, caused more damage to the area.
Not only did lightning strike a building and cause a fire, but the excess water caused trees to uproot.
Meteorologists say the storm lasted less than 30 minutes in Tyler, but caused a lot of damage for one home owner.
"It did do a lot of damage back here didn't it?"
Nancy Loper has lived in this home on Robertson Road in Tyler for the last 40 or so years.
Loper says, "I don't know about through here. It's all on the front porch."
Around 12:30 Thursday morning, this big ole tree ripped out of the ground, concrete and all, and slammed into her house.
Loper says, "I said- what is that? It was the noise. I though lighting had struck. I said. Oh my goodness. It's the tree."
The tree hit the roof.
Colleen Millslagle says, "We couldn't get to her doors. So I had my boys climb through the tree, cause I was calling her and her phone line was down."
Her neighbor's cars got it too.
Loper says, "That was one of my main concerns- was their cars."
Millslagle says, "We had two cars covered in trees."
Now those cars are getting fixed.
Nancy's house on the other hand, is taking a little longer.
But here's the twist-- this has happened before.
Loper says, "Last year, the other tree fell in the street and I was gone."
And it was just as big as this one.
Loper says, "The other tree was right there."
And it too slammed into two of her neighbor's cars.
Because it fell in the street, the city cleaned it up.
And because this tree was a hazard, they marked it-- with yellow caution tape.
It's been there since last july.
Loper says, "I do know the city put it around there, and I do know that when they trimmed the trees, I saw in his report, the report said the city will cut down the tree."
Nancy says, she called city officials Thursday.
For now, Nancy plans to take care of it on her own.
Loper says, "It's all right. I was thinking about cutting it anyway, but God decided to do it for me."
A spokesperson with the City of Tyler tells us, if Nancy files a claim, which she will, the city will take it into consideration.
Which means, Nancy could one day get her money back.
