East Texans Knit Gifts for Soldiers

Tools

By Phil Kuchinsky
KETK News

Some women in East Texas are working on a special project for U.S. soldiers.

Barbara Caffrey and and Janette Sterner are collecting, and crocheting "helmet liners".

The "skull caps" are made of yarn and are camouflage.

Sterner Tells us the kevlar helmets get heavy and uncomfortable, so this give soldiers a little more cushion to have on their heads when they have helmet on for such a long time.

The project got its start through the office of U.S. Representative Sam Johnson, and a retired general.
