After failing in its third attempt to entice a buyer, Longview ISD may tear down the historic T.G. Field Auditorium in downtown Longview.

“I hate to do it, but I don’t hate it enough to keep paying” the costs of maintaining the large structure, said Lynn Marshall, the district’s assistant superintendent of business, finance and facilities.

A final decision about the future of the building, which is among the last vestiges of the former Longview High School campus downtown, may now go before the Longview ISD Board of Trustees.

The old Longview High School opened in November 1932 — the year Longview ISD moved into Class A for the first time, according to a Longview Daily News story from that year. The three-story concrete and brick high school featured art deco entrances with terra cotta and fluted pilasters, classrooms with hardwood floors and redbud trees along the street.
