Longview’s litter index up slightly from 2012
Longview — Several factors may have contributed to a slight increase in Longview’s litter index this year, a city beautification official said Friday.
Keep Longview Beautiful conducted its annual Community Appearance Index on Tuesday. On a scale of 1 to 4, with 1 being the top score, Longview received a 1.62. A year ago, the city scored a 1.36 on the index, a tool designed by Keep America Beautiful to visually assess the overall appearance of communities and help develop plans for improvement.
Kim Droege, executive director of Keep Longview Beautiful, said the main reason the index was slightly higher this year is due in part to a more efficient routing system provided by Longview’s geographic information systems department. Droege said the ability to assess the community’s appearance more efficiently helped scorers evaluate different areas from years past.
