Longview 2012 Citizens Police Academy Accepting Applications

Longview, TX — The Longview Police Department, in conjunction with the Citizens Police
Academy Alumni Association, will be hosting the 21st annual Citizens Police
Academy beginning Thursday, September 13th and concluding on Thursday,
October 25th. Classes will meet on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6:30 pm
until approximately 8:30 pm each night at the Longview Police Department’s Roy
Stone Training Center located at 302 West Cotton Street.
The purpose of the academy is to familiarize citizens with the operations of the
police department. Classes will cover topics such as patrol procedures, criminal
law, narcotics, search and seizure, tactical operations, criminal investigation,
juvenile law, sex offender registration, identity theft, and a SWAT firearms
demonstration.
Students also have the opportunity to ride with a patrol officer and witness the
street activity that officers’ encounter on a day-to-day basis. Classes are open to
the public, attendees do not have to be a Longview resident, and there is no
cost to attend the class.
Applications can be obtained at the Longview Police Department Records
Division, Monday through Friday between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM, or you can call
the Longview Police Department and ask to speak with Teresa Rau at 903-237-
1199 or by emailing a request for an application to her at
trau@longviewtexas.gov. You may also obtain an application via the internet at
www.longviewpolice.com. Click on the “Get Involved” tab at the top of the page
and then select the “Citizens Academy” link to download an application. The
deadline to apply for the academy is September 10th. Class size is limited so
apply soon.
