Longview animal shelter temporarily shuts its doors
LONGVIEW - The Humane Society of Northeast Texas in Longview is taking a measure to make sure none of their animals have contracted a potentially deadly illness.
Officials say last week a puppy was adopted from the shelter and just a few days later it was dead.
Were told, the owners of the puppy returned the animal to the shelter where officials made the decision to have the body of the animal checked for distemper.
They say the results won't be in until Friday and they've made a decision to close the doors until the results are in.
Christine Kerr with the Humane Society of Northeast Texas in Longview tells KETK, "At this point, we decided to close to the public to protect all the animals that are coming to us on a daily basis."
