A 120-year-old Longview church that has been at the forefront of the civil rights movement in the city was awarded a Texas Historical Marker on Saturday.

The church, celebrating its anniversary this weekend, was established in September 1893 by a group of black worshippers. Then known as the Consolidated Brotherhood, they worshipped at the “Junction,” a railroad center just east of downtown Longview.
