Clearing the way for a planned 80-unit apartment complex, the Longview City Council on Thursday rezoned about six acres on Hawkins Parkway.

The land, which had been zoned to allow general retail, is on the north side of Hawkins Parkway, just west of McCann Road. The apartment complex will have parking lot entrances from both roads. The proposed name of the project is Amberwood Place, and it is being built by Longview Development Associates.

The Planning and Zoning Board recommended the rezoning, to multifamily, be approved, and it passed the council unanimously. No one spoke against the request.
