Longview City Council debates adjustments to comprehensive plan committee
Longview — The Longview City Council will consider adjustments to the Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee when it meets tonight.
In addition to appointing a new chairman — committee member Keith Honey is expected to replace former chairman Earl Roberts who resigned the post citing a “recently discovered” health concern — Mayor Jay Dean said he planned to recommend appointing the Rev. D.J. Nelson, pastor of Friendship Baptist Church, to replace the Rev. Homer Rockmore, pastor of Red Oak Baptist Church, who has said he will be unable to serve on the committee.
“We are trying to keep a good comprehensive balance. I think it is important that we have a comprehensive group of people,” Dean said. “When pastor Nelson offered to serve, I was delighted. He is really a good thinker ... and brings a lot to the process.”
Rockmore, along with committee members Mike Cherry and Trey Patterson, has bowed out of the process after being appointed July 30 to serve on the 25-member body that will help develop a 20 to 25-year master plan for the city during the next year and a half.
