Longview City Councilman John Sims on Thursday filed his application to seek re-election.

If re-elected, Sims, 77, would be serving his third and, because of term limits, final stint on the city council. No one has filed to oppose him.

The filing period for candidates for mayor and two City Council positions runs through March 5.

Mayor Jay Dean has filed to run for a third and final term of office.

District 2 Councilman Daryl Williams is completing his third and final three-year term this spring and is not eligible for re-election.
