Longview, TX (KETK) — The city of Longview confirms with KETK news there is a reported case of West Nile in the city.
According to City Spokesman Shawn Hara, the city will begin to spray in the area of the 300 block of Erskine Drive starting Wednesday morning, but will not do city-wide spraying.
City officials are still encouraging residents to follow the four D's for protection:
Drain standing water on your property so mosquitoes won’t breed.
Use insect repellent that contains DEET
Stay indoors at dusk and dawn when mosquitoes are most prevalent.
Dress in long sleeves and pants and spray insect repellent on the clothes.
This is the fifth reported case in Texas this year and the second in East Texas. Anderson County also reported a West Nile case earlier this year. Eighty-nine people died as a result of the virus in 2012.
