Longview, TX — The Freedom Celebration and Fireworks Festival will be held in Longview on Wednesday, July 4, 2012. The fireworks display will begin at dark on the grounds of the Maude Cobb Convention and Activity Complex, 100 Grand Blvd. Spectators may view the show for free from the Maude Cobb Convention and Activity Complex parking lot and from throughout the surrounding area. Access to the Longview Fairgrounds area and Longview Exhibit Building is limited to sponsors of the event and active military personnel. Simulcast music for the fireworks show will be broadcast on KYKX FM 105.7.
The event is provided by a partnership of Longview Too AMBUCS, the City of Longview, and several local sponsors. Sponsors are still needed to help make the event possible. Sponsorship package opportunities range from $250 to $5000; however, any amount of sponsor donation is welcome to help fund the show.
According to Longview Too AMBUCS Chairperson Carmela Davis, “A sponsor appreciation area will be available beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Longview Exhibit Building. Activities in the sponsor area include food, live music, bounce houses, face painting, and a flag ceremony.” To become a sponsor, please contact Longview Too AMBUCS representative Stephanie Diaz or Janae Gulledge at 903-297-5600. More information about making a donation through Longview Too AMBUCS can be found at www.LongviewFireworks.org.
In addition to the fireworks show, the event will also include a parade called the “4th of July Veterans Ride.” The parade will feature veterans, boy scouts, and other community leaders riding on motorcycles or on “AmTryke” cycles, which are specifically designed for people with disabilities. The parade will start at 8:00 p.m. from the Longview Rodeo Arena.
As a reminder: the Fireworks Festival is a professionally produced show that has received city approval. Unregulated use of fireworks is not allowed within City limits. City of Longview Ordinance states, “The unregulated possession, manufacture, storage, handling, sale and use of explosives, fireworks, and small arms ammunition is declared to be a nuisance and illegal.”
