Longview High School students got a lesson in the dangers of drinking and driving Tuesday as they navigated through an obstacle course while wearing goggles that simulated being intoxicated.

Bobbi Brooks, program director of Watch UR BAC and part of the Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Service, along with Laura Dean-Mooney, spent the day walking hundreds of students through a field sobriety test and a video game that simulated how their bodies would react on the road if they had a blood alcohol concentration of .17 to .20.

The program requires participants to use a video game format where drivers experience obstacles and hazards to simulate what might happen if driving impaired. Fatal Vision goggles are worn to distort vision during the simulation to further duplicate the effect of alcohol.
