Longview High School UIL coordinator resigns amid allegations of misconduct
Longview, TX — Longview High School’s University Interscholastic League coordinator resigned Monday after allegations of misconduct were made, district officials said.
“This decision was a difficult one,” English teacher and UIL Coordinator Josue Diaz wrote in his resignation letter, which was addressed to Deputy Superintendent Andrea Mayo. “This resignation is not an admittance of guilt.”
Diaz’s resignation was immediately accepted by administrators, said Longview ISD spokesman Adam Holland.
“At this time, the district is reviewing allegations to determine what, if any additional action might be necessary,” Holland said.
Officials did not give details of the allegations of misconduct.
Diaz’s resignation came four months after former Longview High School teacher and UIL co-coordinator Robert Craig Varnell resigned after being arrested and charged with sexual assault and indecency with a child. Varnell remains in the Gregg County Jail under $500,000 bond. He is accused of having an improper relationship with a boy, aged 13 to 16, from Aug. 31, 2007, until May 3, 2011.
