LONGVIEW --- Longview High School students were released early Tuesday afternoon after the power went out.
SWEPCO officials say they were performing a scheduled upgrade to the transformer at the high school around 10:30 a.m. when the bushing caught on fire.
SWEPCO workers had to kill the power and reroute the circuit causing about 1000 residents in Gregg County residents to be without power for about 10 minutes.
SWEPCO officials say the transformer at the high school has been replaced and that the power is back on.
Longview I.S.D officials say most students taking the TAKS test were done at the time of the power outage and those who were not, were moved to a part of the building where there was still electricity.
