As electronic cigarettes continue to soar in popularity, one East Texas school district is banning the e-cigarettes from school grounds.

On Monday, The Longview I.S.D. Board of Trustees voted to prohibit the use of electronic cigarettes or any other electronic vaporizing device on district property at all times.

The ban is for students, teachers and faculty and even community members who are on school property. With football season right around the corner, Assistant Superintendent Jody Clements says if you're headed to watch some Friday night lights at Lobo Stadium, leave the e-cigs at home.

"if you're at a football game..or basketball game..what we've done is put into place..policy that states that you're not going to be able to use those e-cigarettes..just like a regular cigarette. just the..disruption..if you've seen someone with an e-cigarette..you know it puts out a lot of smoke."

Clements says another factor that went into the decision to ban e-cigs was for safety of students.

"When you're looking at things like K2..they've even got e-cigs with vaping..vaping marijuana taste as well..and those are things we didn't want to get into because if you're allowing that on campus..allowing them to do it..you never know what type of mixture they have in that cigarette."
