A man beaten outside the Lodge Sports Bar & Billiards early Thursday has died. Sean Drake, 39, of Longview, died Saturday at Good Shepherd Medical Center, where he had been hospitalized since being beaten unconscious during an early morning fight Thursday, Longview police said.

According to the Longview News-Journal, Kim Phillips, Drake’s ex-wife and the mother of their daughter, Kristen, said Drake was attempting to diffuse the altercation before being knocked unconscious. A suspect fled the scene before police arrived, and no arrests had been made in connection with the fight, Longview police spokeswoman Kristie Brian said.

After being taken to Good Shepherd, Drake was being treated in the hospital’s intensive care unit, where he initially was listed in critical condition. An autopsy has been ordered to determine if the death occurred due to injuries suffered during the beating. Police will then determine whether they will classify the beating as a homicide, Brian said. Police are still investigating.
