A Longview man remains jailed on $40,000 bond after authorities said he led state troopers on a chase with his wife and two children in the car before crashing into another vehicle Tuesday.

Earnest Survia Jr., 22, was arrested Tuesday after being released from medical care.

According to Department of Public Safety officials, a Tyler-based commercial vehicle enforcement trooper spotted Survia leaving a residence in the 1000 block of Annette Drive with items believed to be stolen.

"The trooper was on his way home when he noticed a guy coming out of the carport area of a residence where he knew the owner," DPS spokeswoman Jean Dark said.

According to jail records, Survia lived next door to the residence he was seen leaving.

Survia's wife and two children, a 4-year-old girl and 6-year-old boy, were in the car when he fled, according to arrest reports. Survia then ran a stop sign and was hit by an Acura driven by Adrianna Martinez near the intersection of Baxley and Arthur streets in Longview, acording to the report.

The girl was ejected from the vehicle during the crash.

Five people were transported from the scene of the crash to area hospitals for non-life threatening injuries, officials said.

Troopers said Survia told them he fled because he thought the trooper was a person who pulled a gun on him the day before.

Survia remained jailed Wednesday afternoon.
