Mayor Jay Dean says he wants more than half of Longview’s residents to participate in the city’s recycling program, and the only way to do that is offer larger bins.

“The size we have now is fine for households with only a couple of people, but when you get to families with several children, they need something bigger,” Dean said.


The City Council on Thursday discussed the possibility of hiring a contractor for its curbside recycling program.

Sanitation Manager Dwayne Archer said he will make the proposal available today to interested bidders.

The request requires bidders to provide 95-gallon collection bins, front-door service to assisted collection customers and to collect the types of recyclable materials accepted now.
