An East Texas soldier stationed at Fort Bragg died over the weekend.

PVT. Jordan Miles, 21, a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division drowned at White Lake on Saturday according to a press release.

White Lake is located an hour south of Fort Bragg in North Carolina.

According to the Fayetteville Observer, Miles was with four other people Saturday swimming near a pier at Goldston's Beach when he went under the pier and hit his head.

Miles was a graduate from Longview High School in 2010 and joined the Army in October 2012. He attended basic combat training at Fort Jackson, S.C., followed by advanced individual training at Fort Huachuca, Ariz. Miles then completed the U. S. Army Airborne School at Fort Benning, Ga. and was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division in June 2013.

Miles awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon and the Parachutist Badge.

The drowning is under investigation.

Funeral services are pending.
