Longview sales tax trend improves
Longview, TX — Longview sales tax receipts generally increase each May, but this one tops that of the previous six.
The monthly report from the Comptroller of Public Accounts, which reflects sales tax collections during March, also indicates Longview sales that month were brisker than any non-December dating to at least 1995, the earliest year reported online.
With almost $3.22 million sent to Longview from the comptroller this month, Longview posted its third straight month of increasing sales tax collections.
Increased sales in March likely can be credited largely to 150 basketball teams descending on Longview that month for the Winter Youth Basketball Festival, a once-in-five-year event of the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation.
The increase amounted to 9 percent over a year ago, when March sales tax collections totaled $2.95 million.
