Longview selects interim fire marshal
LONGVIEW - Battalion Chief Johnny Zackary has been selected to serve as Interim Fire Marshal for the Longview Fire Department. Mr. Zackary began his career as a firefighter with the Longview Fire Department in 1993. Since that time, he has worked as a driver engineer, lieutenant, fire captain, and battalion chief. Mr. Zackary has a degree in Fire Administration, is an alumnus of the National Fire Academy, has received training in hazardous materials and weapons of mass destruction, and is currently a member of the Texas All Hazards Incident Management Team.
As Interim Fire Marshal, Mr. Zackary will provide direction and coordination for the activities and operations of the Longview Fire Department fire prevention and investigation work group. He will supervise the investigation of arson and hazardous material incidents and will supervise the inspection of buildings to enforce fire and safety code compliance. In addition, the Fire Marshal serves as the Public Information Officer for the Longview Fire Department. The office is also responsible for coordinating community service programs to promote safety, risk reduction, fire prevention, and disaster preparedness.
