Longview violent crime up almost 11% in 2012
Longview — The violent crime rate in Longview increased 10.9 percent in 2012 while the statewide violent crime rate dropped slightly during the same time period, according to a report released Wednesday by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The number of crimes committed in Longview increased in each of the seven categories tracked in the Uniform Crime Report — murder, aggravated assault, robbery, rape, burglary, larceny theft and vehicle burglary. The report also notes there were twice as many Longview murders this past year than in 2011, from four to eight.
