(KETK) - Lufkin Tx — The Kurth Animal Shelter in Lufkin needs your help.

Last year the shelter was forced to euthanize around 5,200 cats and dogs, many of which were puppies and kittens.

Shelter officials tell KETK, this past January, they have seen some of the largest amounts of animals coming in that they have ever seen, which does not bode well for the rest of 2013.

KETK's Garrett Sanders spoke with volunteers and foster families in Lufkin, you can hear their story in the video above.
