lufkin — Thanks to the quick action of a nursery school teacher, five children were safely rescued from a burning van Thursday afternoon in front of Fabricators Inc.
Around 1:20 p.m. Thursday, First Christian Pre-School teacher Mindy Langford was coming back from Ellen Trout Zoo with the children — two girls and three boys — when the van’s engine caught fire, according to officials on the scene.
Within minutes Lufkin Fire arrived on scene, and firefighters put the children and Langford, in their matching tie-dye shirts, in the back of an ambulance to check them out and keep them cool. Every time the ambulance door opened, the children could be seen eagerly asking the firefighters questions and sipping water from Styrofoam cups.
