The Lufkin Police Department brought home 11 medals from the Texas Police Games in Travis County last month.

Sgt. David Thomas led the way with three gold medals, two silvers and a bronze. Cpl. David Casper collected two silvers and one bronze, and officer Randy Brooks added two bronze medals.

While the games include events that range from dominoes to flag football, the LPD officers only participated in the shooting competitions.

“This is just another way to practice our discipline and hone our skills,” said Lt. Alton Lenderman, LPD’s range master. “The competition aspect adds some extra motivation, but ultimately it is just the honing of basic skills. The extra practice and competition can only help; it can’t hurt.”
