Lufkin Police Department holds an active warrant for the arrest of Cornius Deunte Kirkland (Black / Male / 22 / 908 Rowe Avenue, Lufkin) for the Second Degree Felony offense of Aggravated Assault. A Lufkin Police Department Detective obtained the warrant following an investigation into a July 04, 2011 shooting that occurred outside of a residence located on East Grove Avenue in Lufkin.

At approximately 10:00 PM on Monday, July 04, 2011, Lufkin Police Department Dispatch received a report of a gunshot victim at 411 East Grove Avenue in Lufkin.

Lufkin Police Department officers responded to that address and found twenty-three-year-old victim Andre Castle laying at the edge of the driveway with a single gunshot wound to the thigh area of his left leg.

A witness stated to the officers that prior to the shooting incident, suspect Cornius Deunte Kirkland was at the residence accusing Mr. Castle of stealing a mobile telephone.

The witness stated that Mr. Kirkland left the residence after losing a fight with Mr. Castle but returned approximately twenty minutes later.

The witness stated that when Mr. Kirkland returned to the residence he exited his vehicle with a handgun, shot Mr. Castle, and then fled the area.

Lufkin Fire Department personnel transported Mr. Castle from the scene to Memorial Health System of East Texas, located at 1201 West Frank Avenue in Lufkin.

The account of the incident that Mr. Castle provided at the hospital to the investigating Lufkin Police Department Detective matched the witness’s statements.

Finding probable cause to believe that Cornius Deunte Kirkland intentionally and knowingly used a deadly weapon to cause serious bodily injury to Mr. Castle, the Detective sought, and a judge issued, a warrant for Mr. Kirkland’s arrest for the Second Degree Felony offense of Aggravated Assault.

Cornius Deunte Kirkland is aware of the outstanding arrest warrant and that Lufkin Police Department is attempting to locate him.
