Lufkin Rotary Club's Waffle Bake Tuesday and Wednesday

AS REPORTED IN THE LUFKIN DAILY NEWS:
The Lufkin Rotary Club will host its 54th annual Waffle Bake Tuesday and Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m in the Angelina College cafeteria.
“This is the Rotary Club’s one fund-raiser each year,” said Mike Hampson, who will head this year’s Waffle Bake. “The proceeds will go to various community organizations.”
The Rotary Club of Lufkin is one of more than 30,000 active clubs made up of more than 1.2 million people in 152 countries and geographical regions. The Waffle Bake was born in 1956 and has continued ever since as a fund-raising, community service and fellowship project that has raised thousands of dollars.
“The Waffle Bake was initially held downtown, and it was considered a kickoff of the Christmas season,” Hampson said.
Hampson expects the club to serve between 12,000 and 14,000 waffle plates. The two-night event has become a Lufkin tradition.
“We have people come to the bake whose parents or grandparents met at a Waffle Bake,” Hampson said. “It’s something to do in Lufkin, not something you get to do every day.”
In addition, the Waffle Bake gives people an opportunity to meet new friends and interact with other members of the community.
