A Lufkin teenager is in jail after authorities busted him for impersonating a state trooper.

On Thursday, the 17-year old, Zachary Allen Bridges, was spotted standing next to his truck by an off-duty DPS trooper in a Dairy Queen parking lot, located in the 2300 block of Atkinson Drive. The trooper recognized the teen from previous run-ins of similar nature.

The trooper called out to Bridges, who then jumped in his vehicle to flee, but stopped when the officer gave him commands to stay.

Lufkin police official were called to the scene, where Bridges had been taken into custody.

Officers say Bridges was wearing an official DPS uniform that was determined to be "home-made", but its design, colors, patches and insignias matched those worn by real law enforcement. He also wore a nylon "duty belt" with a pistol holder carrying a Sig Sauer brand gun, which is the DPS trooper issued weapon, but it was determined to be a plastic replica. Underneath his shirt, Bridges was wearing a back brace to resemble body armor.

Because Bridges possessed a badge, insignia, shoulder emblem, or other item bearing an insignia of a law enforcement agency that identified him as a peace officer, and he did so knowing that he is not a commissioned peace officer or reserve law enforcement officer, he was arrested for false identification as peace officer and booked into Angelina County Jail.
