ELGIN - A Texas man is facing charges after allegedly firing an assault rifle from his truck during a road rage incident.
Bradley Dungan, 19, of Giddings was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after police found him with an AK47 and hundreds of rounds of ammunition in his truck.
The shooting happened of Highway 290 just west of Elgin on December 4th.
"He was arrested with an AK47 with several hundred rounds of ammunition," said Detective Chris Walker.
The weapon and ammunition were found inside Dungan's truck after he was pulled over by a trooper just minutes after victims called 911 reporting he had tried to shoot them.
The couple was on Highway 290 when they had an altercation with suspected shooter Bradley Dungan.
"People cut people off all of the time," said Walker. "They pull out in front of people, the best thing to do is just let them pass."
Instead the female driver's boyfriend made what Elgin police say could have been a fatal mistake.
"Apparently the passenger in the SUV made an offensive hand gesture at the pickup truck," said Walker.
Next Police said Dungan pulled out an AK47 which was sitting on the seat next to him, sticking it out the window of this truck and firing it at least once at the victim's SUV.
Neither the couple, or the vehicle were hit.
However, Elgin Police say road rage reports are on the rise and you never know what another driver could have with them.
"It's a much more dangerous world today than it has been in the past," said Walker. "It just does not make any sense to engage someone in a situation like that. It happened out here in a small town it certainly happens in Austin and larger cities."
Dungan was taken to the Bastrop County Jail but has been released.
