RIVIERA BEACH, FL - He survived his second heart attack two and a half weeks ago, and turned 74 on Sunday.

E.T. Strickland already thought he was lucky to be alive.

Now, he knows he is.

Strickland and his wife Pam were driving home from dinner in Riviera Beach, Florida Tuesday night when a stray bullet pierced the drivers side window of their white Mercedes Benz.

"I knew immediately what it was: you know, a shot through the window and as I looked at the window shattered my husband said 'I've been shot' and pulled in to the gas station," said Pam Strickland.

E.T. Strickland, a real-estate broker, was shot in the back of the head yet remained conscious.

Police say the bullet, still lodged in his head after being released from Saint Mary's Medical Center early Wednesday morning, came from the gun of a thief who was robbing a man.

Strickland says he learned from police that the robbery victim had just cashed a check at a Walgreen's and was followed onto the street by the gunman.

That man was shot several times and remains in the hospital.

Pam Strickland says they feel blessed and are keeping the victim in their thoughts.

E.T. Strickland says he realizes he came within centimeters of losing his life.

Riviera Beach police are still searching for the gunman.
