Man connected to double homicide arrested following multi-county chase

An East Texas man, connected to a double homicide in Longview, has been arrested following a multi-county high-speed chase.

Police say Isaiah Christopher Roberts, 29, shot and killed two people at a home on Thelma St. near Scenic Dr. in Longview around 9:00 Sunday morning. Roberts then took off, at high speeds, from the scene. Longview Police then began chasing Roberts as he speed down Highway 271, reaching speeds up to 100 mph.

Roberts then made his way into the Tyler area. At this point, Smith County Sheriff's, DPS, and Constables began pursuing him.

Tyler Police attempted to stop Roberts by using spike strips in two different area, but the spikes were unsuccessful.

Roberts then began speeding off of Hwy 271 onto Gentry Parkway. He speed through several intersection, causing a major accident involving four vehicles, where two people were injured.

Roberts was soon stopped at the intersection of Glenwood Blvd. and Hill Ave. and was taken into custody. When police searched his vehicle they found he was in possession of two firearms.

According toTyler PIO Don Martin, upon further investigation of the crash, it was later determined that the crash occurred prior to the police pursuit entering the crash scene. Tyler Police Department will be requesting the Smith County District Attorney’s office to dismiss the five counts of accident causing injury against Roberts.
 

Detectives from the Longview Police Department are in the process of obtaining arrest warrants related to the shooting in Longview.

Family members tell KETK crews on scene, Chanda Martin, 38, the ex-wife of Roberts, and her friend Kim Rayson, 36, were the two killed in Longview. Members say Martin's boyfriend was also injured in the shooting. They tell us he is recovering at a local hospital.
