After 30 minutes of deliberations Tuesday, a Harrison County jury found a Longview man guilty in a November 2010 traffic death resulting from a high-speed chase.

Charles Ray Owens Jr. was charged with murder after running a stop sign, causing a three-vehicle wreck in which he struck a pickup and then a Honda driven by Robert Smith while trying to evade state troopers.

Owens is set to be sentenced this morning in the 71st District Judicial Courtroom.

Troopers testified in court Tuesday that Owens was driving 83 mph when he ran through the stop sign at the intersection of Paige Road and Loop 281, instantly killing 62-year-old Smith.
