TYLER - Samuel Williams lives next door 25-year-old Christopher Dion Williams of Tyler. Samuel says, Monday morning, he noticed Williams walking outside his house on Cedar Street with a 12-gauge shotgun. Officials say a neighbor called authorities and a Tyler peace officer arrived on scene and found Williams with the gun in hand.

Williams says, "I seen him cock the shot-gun and point it at the officer."

"He confronted the suspect told him to put the gun down and drew his weapon and at that point in time the subject pointed the gun at the officer," said Tyler Public Information Officer Don Martin.

During the standoff, officials say, Williams decided to make a run for it. Samuel says during the confrontation he was for sure Williams was going to get shot will running. He says he was shocked, and thankful, Tyler Police didn't take Williams out.

"This officer had a perfectly good shot because this lady wasn't at home. A perfectly good shot but he didn't take it and I'm glad he didn't because I wouldn't have wanted to see that."

Authorities say when Williams ran he left Cedar Street, running across Broadway and through Tyler neighborhoods but, after more than a half mile chase Tyler police overwhelmed him.

The chase finally ended on the 1600 block of North Border Street in Tyler, and authorities say when they finally caught up with Williams they found that his gun was loaded, and now he is in custody at the Smith County jail where he is charged with aggravated assault.
