March heat melts East Texas records

Longview, TX — East Texans who have been feeling hotter than usual for such early spring have good reason — last month was a record setter.
“March 2012 was the hottest it’s ever been in Longview, and that’s a common trend we’re seeing in the four-state area of Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Arkansas,” National Weather Service meteorologist Jeff Hood said Monday.
The National Weather Service has records going back to 1902.
The average monthly temperature for Longview in March was 65.9 degrees, or 8.3 degrees above the 110-year average of 57.6 degrees, Hood said.
