On Friday, Wylie Elementary in Henderson had their annual field day, but this one was just a bit more special.

it's the day all kids look forward to, nearing the end of the school year, and having fun out at the stadium..

One of those kids having fun, was Maribel.

"One of her wishes was that she wanted to have field day, and fortunately she's here today and we're glad to have her.  So we wanted to make this day super special for her and so that's why we're doing what we're doing," said 3rd grade teacher Courtney Mosley.

What they did was make Maribel the Field Day Queen.

"We know how happy she is and that's the ultimate goal, for her to be happy and feel joy," said 3rd grade teacher Amy Hacker.

As the competitions began, Maribel was a present fixture on the sidelines, cheering on her friends in her souped up 'Queen Mobile.'

"Everybody sees her with a smile on her face when they walk by," said Maribel's friend Abbey.

"Very happy, very proud and hope she has a good time," said her other friend Julianna.

Maribel has been fighting cancer for some time now, but not alone.

"It's amazing to see how these 8 and 9 year olds have rose to the occasion to show support," said Hacker.

"They love her, they'll do anything for her, and I know they're praying for her, just, they want to be around her and they just lover her," said Mosley.

And it appeared their goal of giving Maribel a good time, was accomplished.

"It makes me feel good," said Maribel.

But it's the impact she's had on those who know her, that makes this young queen, just a little special.

"True inspiration for these kids, to see someone who is sick, to be determined, and truly, I have really realized, what a true hero really is, and that's Maribel," said Hacker.
