JACKSONVILLE - A Jacksonville staple since 1950, "May Drug" is closing its doors this Friday.

Pharmacist Chuck Hopson - who you might also know as State Representative Chuck Hopson has owned the place since the early 70's after buying it from the May brothers.

Hopson sold the business to pharmacy giant CVS in a deal that includes transferring the May Drug employees to Jacksonville's new CVS store.

Hopson himself will be joining them on the weekends until the legislative session is done - then, he will work full time.

Hopson says it was time to sell the store.

He would like to spend more time doing legislative work as well as spend more time with his wife, who is battling breast cancer.

My family has shopped at May Drug since it opened. I remember going to the old location when it was at the corner of Ragsdale and Larissa to get treats at the soda fountain. Chuck and Billie have been such an integral part of this community for years. We wish them the best in the years to come. It has truly been a pleasure doing business with such wonderful people.

Well Chuck it has been a ride. There are not many independents left anymore but it does sound like you made a great deal for your employees as well. I want to thank you sincerely for your friendship as well as the service we always received when we came in. Even after we moved to Houston we continued to come by and were always met with smiles. Your business was a class act Chuck and it is because you made it that way. Jacksonville will truly miss May Drug but will never forget it.

I'm going to miss Chuck and the wonderful ladies that have given me excellent service. I will also miss the gourmet coffee's and chocolates.
