MEMPHIS, Tenn. —  Federal officials say Memphis is seeing the worst of the Mississippi River disaster and that no new areas
are expected to see any serious flooding.

The river was still rising Monday, but it was only expected to climb about another inch before it reaches its crest. Cory Williams of the Army Corps of Engineers tells The Associated Press that "where the water is today, is where the water is going to be."

The river was 47.8 feet Monday afternoon and is expected to crest at 48 feet, several inches shy of the record set in 1937.

The flooding has already swamped pockets of homes in low-lying neighborhoods, but is not posing a threat to the city's world-famous musical landmarks, including Graceland and Beale
Street.
