(CNN) — (CNN) -- People have come to expect a bit of a shock from Miley Cyrus.
And she didn't disappoint Wednesday night in an MTV behind-the-scenes special called "Miley: The Movement."
Filming started four months ago, and followed the 20-year-old as she prepared for that now-infamous twerktacular performance at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards August 25.
During the hour-long special, Miley didn't just give fans a glimpse into her life -- she left us with some noteworthy quotes. Here's a breakdown of our favorites:
"It's not a transition. It's a movement, it's a growth, it's a change."
While there is no doubt that there is a "Miley movement" underway, the singer emphasized she is still the same person. "To me, when I'm saying 'a movement' that's the only way I know how to describe what I'm doing because it's not a transition. People always want to call it a transition. It's not a transition. I'm the same human. I've got the same heart I did five years ago, everything about me is the same: same skin, same human. So it's not a transition, it's a movement, it's a growth, it's a change."
"People could think it was just like a hot mess, but it's a strategic hot mess."
A lot has been made of Miley's VMA performance -- Cher, for one, was not a fan -- but for all the haters, Miley has no regrets. "It was really important for me to bring that fun and that, like, energy onto stage. You can watch that performance from the VMAs and people could think it was just like a hot mess, but it's a strategic hot mess. Right now, I'm at a point in my career where I can just be exactly who I want to be."
"People get a connection, they feel like they really know you, but that's when people get really entitled."
Yes, we got to know and love Miley as the sweet little girl on Disney's "Hannah Montana," but she wants the world to take note that she's not 12 anymore. "I think there is something about watching people grow up. People get a connection, they feel like they really know you, but that's when people get really entitled. Most people don't have their kid photos put up and then be like, 'she's changed.' If you put a picture of Lady Gaga at eight and then you put Lady Gaga (now), yeah she's changed."
"I am just smiling, having fun, loving life."
As Miley spends a second week at the top of the Billboard 100 with her hit "Wrecking Ball," there's no reason for her not to be "loving life." But with all her fame, she still feels the need to pinch herself. "I can't complain 'cause when I look around, I can't believe it is real."
