TYLER - Government officials say, nationwide, the recession has placed millions more children at risk of going hungry.
And local aid groups are reporting significant increases in services.
The East Texas Food Bank is serving meals to nearly 15-hundred kids a day.
That's 300 more than last summer.
Food bank officials say, people are hurting and they want people to know there is help available.
Robert Bush, with the East Texas Food Bank says, "We have done a really good job of trying to make people aware of the program, and tried to add more sites. But on top of that, we do think that there are more families having difficult times"
Texas is one of five states with a large jump in summer meals programs.
