For almost two hours Thursday morning Mineola City Council members rode the streets of the town, looking at cracked, crumbling, and gouged surfaces and discussing where the money is going to come from to fix those problems.

“Congratulations,” Ward 2 Alderman Ken Pearce said afterward. “You’ve just seen $5 million worth of street repairs and we only have a hundred grand to do them with.”

A public meeting was posted for the gathering due the fact a quorum of the council would be gathering and discussing city business.

Novada Bigham, Paul Gates, Pat Wood and Pearce attended, and the meeting was convened in the council meeting chambers to be recessed for the tour. Sue Jones (who will take a seat on the council in May due to being unopposed for the Ward 1 position) also went on the tour. They were provided a list compiled by Johnny McCoy of the streets that have been reconstructed or overlaid, as well as a lengthy list of projects that have been done since last April.
