Mineola community volunteering to help beautify city

The city of Mineola is setting its sights on beautifying the community. Through the help of local volunteers, Mineola has made many improvements that enhance its most popular public spaces.

The most recent beautification project was a community basketball court. KETK spoke with the Pastor of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church who oversaw the project, who said, "I think it builds a more Mayberry spirit when you have the community with the city working together to achieve goals that will enhance the overall city's perception". Boyd said the court has been used all day, every day, since it opened. He added, "It's wonderful the kids have somewhere to go".

The community garden has also been created through volunteer efforts from Mineola residents, and one in particular maintains the space almost every day. Beverly Tabor said, "I enjoy coming outside, I enjoy playing in the dirt. It just needed something pretty over here". The community pitches in to eliminate weeds, plant flowers, and build unique sculptures.

However, the city is not stopping here. The Mineola Community Bank is a partner in the creation of a brand new 150-person amphitheater at the Nature Preserve. The Trail Boss, Buster Green, said, "There's just a lot of different things that go on out here, and the amphitheater is just going to add another advantage to our program". The theater will be used for a wide variety of events, from musicals to boy scout awards. All of this of course, is being created to enrich the lives of Mineola residents.
