Mineola teacher pleads guilty to improper relationship with student

TYLER — 4:23 UPDATE: The defendant, JoAnn Stephens, has pleaded guilty to one count of improper relationship with a student.
All other charges have been dropped.
When asked why he filed the motion, attorney Thad Davidson said: "I can comment about when an attorney approaches a witness who is adverse and hostile, and pays for that witness' dinner and drinks... and then during that dinner lets it be known that a certain type of proposed testimony would --- I don't think I should say anymore."
Davidson also says he does not regret his decision to file the motion.
The judge says he ruled against Thad Davidson's motion because he didn't have "civil standing".

The judge has dismissed Thad Davidson's motion to dismiss the prosecuting lawyer from Jo Ann Stephens' case.
The judge has also sanctioned Davidson. He has been fined a thousand dollars.

A Mineola teacher is arrested after allegedly having a relationship with a student.
According to our news partner The Longview News-Journal 43 year old JoAnn Stephens was arrested Thursday afternoon after a four month investigation into the alleged relationship.
Mineola police say they started the investigation after receiving a complaint from Child Protective Services on August 4.
The alleged relationship was between Stephens and a male student who has since graduated.
